This man is a total buffoon, that's why. We absolutely MUST drill for oil, many Dems in the House want it up for a vote, but Pelosi flat out refuses; goes to show how much SHE cares about America. Fully inflated tires should save you about 2 gallons of gas a year. Of course, drilling for more oil at this point is pretty pointless and will solve nothing. The era of the dominant fossil fuel is over. Even if additional oil is attempted, and it will be, it is only economical with oil selling over 100USD a barrel, the price of gasoline will remain 3.00USD and higher.


Time for conservation and alternative forms of energy.


It isn't new or a surprise, this has been known for the past 40 years. The US has not been self sufficient since WWII.
Obama was not joking -- and the stunned silence of the crowd when he made that statement in Missouri is proof of that.





The fact is, you can improve your gas mileage by about 3% if you are not already inflating your tires to their proper level. Since Americans drive approx 2.8 billion miles per year collectively at an average of 24miles per gallon -- and you can get 20 gallons of gasoline per barrel of oil, that translates to about 90 million barrels of oil each year that you could save if about half of America wasn't already inflating their tires properly.





Anwar has 10 BILLION barrels waiting to be tapped. The outer shelf has 18 BILLION barrels. America's Oil Shale has 1.5 to 3 TRILLION barrels waiting to be tapped.





How on earth Obama thinks that balances out to 90 million barrels is beyond me. His direct quote: ';We could save all the oil that they're talking about getting off drilling if everyone was just inflating their tires...';





Liberals are in the pockets of special interest groups and environmental lobbyists -- and they will do whatever they have to do to keep those special interest groups and environmental lobbyists happy, even at the expense of $4 and $5 a gallon gasoline and tanking our economy.





What Obama is banking on is that the majority of his mind-numb, Obama-chanting Kool-Aid drinkers are too stupid to do the math and will blindly follow whatever figures he pulls out of his butt. And the sad part is, he's probably right.
Lets wake up folks. The amount of oil that we would save is ridiculous to consider. You can do it to save some cash on gas but its nominal. It will save you more on tires than on gas. We can't just claim the age of fossil fuels is over when there is nothing else to fill our tank with tomorrow morning. We still have to drive to work. Even if you are raising corn for ethanol you can't burn that ethanol in the tractor you have now. Ethanol is the agent used to replace lead in gasoline. Lead was used to change the burn rate of gasoline to an acceptable burn rate. 93 octane gas has 10% ethanol mixed with it. Everything else has less ethanol. That's in the fuel we use now. High octane engines are more compatible with long stroke engines. That is what is was made for. To run pure ethanol or higher percentage ethanol fuel will require engines with different engine configurations. If you think the age of fossil fuel is over try putting hydrogen in your tank tomorrow morning. Try putting an electric motor in your car and charging up your batteries and drive to work that way next week. Just because ethanol is available some places doesn't mean you have a car that will run on it. Even when we switch over to other fuels we will still need oil to lubricate engines transmissions and gear boxes. Why should that oil be foreign oil. Why should we give people who hate us and always will $700 billion dollars a year for oil. Why should we buy any from them. We should develop our own and under sell them. Solar power and wind power for electricity is great but for cars? don't make me laugh. It will be years before we have the technology to mass produce those. Our economy can't afford to wait to start doing something realistic about our energy needs.
If you don't know what he was talking about - I suspect you've already proved his point. A great many Americans drive around in badly tuned cars with underinflated tires - guess what - it burns more gas than it should. A lot more gas.





So does - dirty airfilters - worn out spark plugs - leaking engines and driving around with the ';check engine'; light on for months.
I didn't hear his speech, but I've heard many experts say that if your tires are properly inflated you will get 4 more mpg. If all of us did that, it would make a difference, and our tires would last longer too.

Well we should do that just for the sake of our tires and gas mileage however, if we all inflated our tires some Saturday and then bowed in the direction of Chicago and thanked him for being so wise and brilliant.....he would then complain we were using up too much air !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Makes as much sense as the statement!
Just like Sheryl Crowe telling us use one square of toilet paper to save the trees. I bet they would do this stuff. Obama drives a giant SUV, and Crowe flys in her own jets.

Properly inflated tires increase fuel efficiency. This, combined with higher fuel efficiency standards will decrease our dependence on foreign oil. In fact, if we required all new cars to get 45 MPG, we could end our dependence completely. The Republicans blocked fuel efficiency standards in the current congress.





Maybe you should do a little research before you post your next uninformed rant.
If we drill for oil they won't fix the problems. Where were you in the 70s?
