Why don't we drill more oil in Alaska, and the Gulf of mexico?

and build more refineries in the usa, I heard we haven't built a refinery in like 30 years, and their not a company around that has the expertiese to build a refinery is that true. Why don't we drill more oil in Alaska, and the Gulf of mexico?
Damn good question....the answer is the enviormental lobby....they love the energy, just dont like the messWhy don't we drill more oil in Alaska, and the Gulf of mexico?
The technology is there to drill safely into the Alaskan shelf... without disturbing one moose or caribou. There are most defiitely USA oil explorations that would gladly take that on...but Congress continues to say '; no';.
We fail to produce readily available oil in the ANWR area of Alaska because our liberal Congress has failed to approve it. This has largely been a political slap at President Bush, who has asked to move forward with this throughout his term in office. He has nothing at all to gain personally from it.

We haven't built a new refinery in the U.S. in the past 30 years because excessive EPA and OSHA regulation, and the threat of draconian taxation of our oil companies, which has made it economically unfeasible. Those that might have handled the extremely high cost, like British Petroleum, French TOTAL S.A, and Exxon Mobil have been forced to do business elsewhere, even in risky areas like Nigeria and Venezuela. Exxon Mobil has stated to its shareholders that it cannot afford to build in the U.S., but would consider China.

The ONLY indication of willingness to build a refinery here in recent years came from Saudi Arabia. They probably also see a refinery here as a money-losing proposition, except that it would help them retain us as a market for their oil.

It has been discovered that the so-called ';endangered'; caribou are thriving and that they like the windbreaks and even the bit of warmth from existing oil pipelines (which soak up a little solar heat). And of course modern horizontal drilling procedures affect only a tiny part of the landscape.l
there isnt as much oil in Alaska, it would run dry very quickly and would not be worth the infrastructure investment needed to get it
because some people want us to be dependent of foreign oil from places like Iran and Venezuela.
The tree-hugger, manatee lovers want us all to pay more for foreign oil.
We will!
We should not be drilling for more oil, we should be developing alternative fuels, which we will need one day anyway.

Why put it off? Why not start now?
Because Democrats care more about the welfare of caribou than they do yours.
why don't we use less oil.

Invest in technologies that will help up end our dependency on foreign oil.

Have you ever spent time in the U.S. back country?

If you have then you certainly can appreciate the beauty of Americas hinterlands.

Do you want the ruined by oil and gas operations?
Why invest all of that money into an antiquated energy source?

Why not invest that money into developing the new (and inevitable) energy sources that will fuel our future economy?

The longer we put that off, the worse off the US is.

We will perpetuate using oil until the oil companies and auto companies can milk every penny out of it, then when the time comes that oil starts to run dry and will be too expensive and people won't put up with it, we will be paying OTHER countries for THEIR energy technologies.

It's already happening.

This is NOT the time to linger on to old ways, that will inevitably run out and only grow worse until that day comes.

We need new energy sources.

Drilling in those places will only waste money and put off the inevitable.

The sooner we are off of oil, the better. It's too bad many people do not come to this realization and think we can drill ourselves to economic prosperity.

Environmental ethics aside: Which is really the better option for the future and US global influence??
Because climate change is the single greatest threat to our national security. And to everyone else's security around the world!

We do not need to be making the Greenhouse problem even worse by belching even more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, we need to be investing in alternative energy and reducing emissions as soon as possible, otherwise this problem has the potential to completely WRECK our way of life!

Why don't we drill in Alaska/Gulf zones ? Two words...

Tree %26amp; Hugger

You know, I'm all for conservation up to a point...but get real- there ARE ways to safely drill in Alaska and/or the Gulf without harming anything....like there's oil spilling all over the ground or something....we need to focus on what's best for America, not the middle east. I couldn't care less about OPEC and politics...drill here in the U.S. and fence America off...don't buy anything from other countries. We have everything here that we need.

Stop huggin' trees and get real!
I have another Idea///// why not learn to live with less pretro products....a lot of what we use is totally wasted because we can...
Because a greater supply will drop the price and ultimately the profits to the big oil companies. But the politicians find it handy to have the topic as a volleyball to toss back and forth.
