Titusville, Pennsylvania is credited as the birthplace of the modern oil industry in the United States.

It was here that Edwin L. Drake drilled for oil in the summer of 1859 and founded America鈥檚 first oil-producing well.
The most important oil well ever drilled was in the middle of quiet farm country in northwestern Pennsylvania in 1859. this was one of the first successful oil wells that was drilled for the sole purpose of finding oil. Known as the Drake Well, after ';Colonel'; Edwin Drake
It was in Pennsylvania. Titusville, PA in 1858 by a man named Edwin Drake.
