Why wont America drill for oil in alaska?

They are saving that oil for thyself. Why wont America drill for oil in alaska?
It doesn't make much difference if the U.S. did drill for oil in Alaska. U.S. oil reserves will be depleted by 2013 (5 years) at our current production rate of 3.1 billion barrols per year (21 billion barrols in U.S. oil reserves, two years ago). The amount of oil estimated in Alaska is somewhere around the neighborhood of 10 billion barrols, not all may be extractable, and it would take many years to get the operation going, peak production wouldn't be reached until around 2020 and then it would be only a small fraction of what the U.S. currently uses, not only that, but it would be available too late.

At around 10 billion barrols in Alaska and the U.S. being dry in less than five years, even if we could extract 10 billion barrols from Alaska it would only last us about three years time (and again it would be available to us about ten years late). Why wont America drill for oil in alaska?
The largest oil reserves in Alaska that are not currently being drilled are under the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR). This oil cannot be drilled because it would require approval from Congress, who will not currently give that authorization due to environmental concerns.
We have been drilling and pumping oil up here in Alaska since 1977. The wildlife is just fine with the pipeline. We simply do not have enough oil to satisfy the needs and wants of the USA.
The Left and the environmentalist will not allow thinking the oil companies will do irreparable damage to the environment.
Because we shouldn't ruin one of the last best wildlife areas in the country with threatened and endangered animals living there.
It is a mystery to me why America can't drill for oil in all its oil rich areas.
