When are we finally going to start drilling our own oil and resources?

At what point are our elected officials negligent by not allowing exploration and development of our own natural resourses? How long will we sit and watch other countries develop resources right off our shores - referring to Cuba's recent agreement with China to explore right in the Florida Straights? How long do we have to be oil slaves to our enemies, just because we are being held hostage by a small group of environmentalistsWhen are we finally going to start drilling our own oil and resources?
You do not read the paper or watch T.V. do you. You really have no idea as to what is going on. When every thing is cut down or dug up and the United State is just one barren place, you will still be complaining about you elected officials O and the beaches are cover with oil. No thank, I like it the way it is and I would like less messing with the environment any way. And that a fact jack. When are we finally going to start drilling our own oil and resources?
We already do drill our own oil.And guess what it goes on the market right along with the OPEC oil.The rilling isnt the problem its the fact we dont have enough refineries. That and the price of oil is being manipulated by speculators on Wall Street,.And to the idiot that said ';because the dems are blocking it';,STFU and stay way from the voting booth come November.
When Dems stop blocking it
When the other oil countries run out of oil. It's a long term plan. We let all the other countries all but run out of oil and drive up the price high then we start drilling and selling our oil to them. We will make multi zillions on the sale of oil to the world.
You are right. It is negligence on our elected officials part to not allow America to be dependent on itself. The very same people who got those retarded laws passed where we cannot explore our own shores for oil are the same pinheads who are screaming about the high gas prices. Of course it is all blamed on President Bush even though he had nothing to do with the stupid laws that were passed over 30 YEARS AGO!!

So we let ourselves be vulnerable to the whims of those we import oil from and hope they don't decide to turn off the spigot.

It's lunacy.
It doesn't matter. We've past peak oil and it would take two years to bring Alaskan oil on line. Republicans are so afraid of making the Cuban exiles mad they won't open relations with Cuba.
We are drilling the heck out of west Texas. You know where that TV show Friday Night LIghts is supposedly set, Odessa, TX? Boom town now.

How much oil do you think there IS in Alaska? I've read that there is about 6 months' worth. HOW will an additional 6 months change the over-all dynamic? It won't. The thing todo is get off the oil pipeline altogether.

Added as an edit -if you actually believe that we need to be putting resources into alternatives, then that's where you should be putting your emphasis. The first part of your question, before the added information, makes it sound almost like a rant against a ';small group of environmentalists.'; I don't think the group of people who want a healthy place to raise their children is really all that small. The restrictions on oil refineries is largely a ';not in my back yard'; issue. Most people are perfectly content to have additional refinery capacity in the swamps of Louisianna or the deserts of west Texas. We have refineries, and they are BLAZING along at full capacity. The one in Big Spring TExas that just blew up didn't improve the situation.

Much of why we are paying so much for gasoline right now is not supply, but increased demand. Even if Americans did start conserving like they did in the 1970's, this isn't the same world - the demand from China and the third world for increased energy is growing so fast that our reductions would not make a dent in the demand.

AGAIN---

Go renewables!
That makes a great point for finding renewable resources, doesn't it?
