I think we should first start using the refineries we do have at 100%. The one near our town runs under 40% productivity. We have the refineries we just need the oil. If we wanted to drill for more oil, shouldn't we be building more of our own refineries?
We don't build refineries or drill for oil.
I can't count how many times I've pointed that out. All we do as a government entity is sell leases.
To companies that have a responsibility to their shareholders to make as much money as possible. Whether that means drilling, or holding off until the market looks higher. Our nation will not get cheaper oil by selling those leases.
When a nation owns its oil and drilling and refining, that means its been nationalize and that's not something we are going to do here.If we wanted to drill for more oil, shouldn't we be building more of our own refineries?
If we were expanding the domestic production of oil in our country, yes we should make more refineries. Something that I have always heard is that this is the problem that has caused high prices on gas. Not enough refineries, not a foreign supply problem. Oil companies, not OPEC are the ones really ripping us off.
That being said, I don't believe that expanding our oil infrastructure is a good idea at all, since its benefits won't be realized for several years, and we could derive much more benefit from pooling our resources into furthering scientific research in technologies that are on the way in rather than oil, which is on the way out. We could start realizing the benefits of these new technologies by about the same point that the new drilling expansion would, and it wouldn't result in a huge amount of wasted resources.
Yep, but we will never see any of that now. With the democrats in the presidency, control of congress and the senate, all in the pocket of the extreme environmentalists, you can hang up and drilling or new refineries. Sure they will move toward renewables and they should, but when gas prices shoot back up, and they will soon, we will still be suffering like we were a month or two ago. Or even worse since most of us won't have jobs anymore. I'm losing mine at the end of January.
New technologies are a good thing, but since it will be 10 to 20 years before anything realistic will come out of it, we should expand our oil drilling and refineries to take the pressure off until the new stuff can be made. Besides, the new tech will be very expensive when it comes out, and I don't know anybody who can afford a new car right now.
The Democrats and their rich supporting friends have been stopping this because of their beliefs of hurting the earth, animals and beliefs that stop this what is given to us by God. Other country's don't worry about what all the wackos want but we can have the best of every thing with careful planning. We won't have to depend other countries and let make their way and we can make ours. We are a country rich in resources and we have these people stopping because they get monies from the lobbyist to do there way and keep getting monies and pad their bank accounts. Working together now and making this happen is the answers to what the right thing to do.
And where exactly is that going to happen? No offense, but doesn't anyone watch the news?- Somali pirates hijacked over 50 million on oil. I don't see any refinery being touched as of yet, it will not happen in my opinion. Btw, who is going to pay for it... all of us... that bulb is dimly lit. Don't take it personally I am just replying to your good question.
If we wanted to drill, we'd have to stop the environmentalist lobbyists. They are worried about the impact on the earth. I don't see them going away any time soon, so I'm currently in support of natural gas.
The number of refineries we have doesn't become a problem until a hurricane knocks one out. They are at full capacity, and it's not been a problem.
and who will be paying for these refineries? the tax payer. we shouldn't be worrying about oil but instead focusing on a way to get rid of our dependency on it.
the last count I got on refineres was 32 states have them.a total of about 152 refineres all total.off shore I dont know.
the enviro extremists start lawsuits at the mention of a new refinery
so ask them!
And increasing Exxon's CEO bonuses and perks. Agree totally.
