Fuel efficiency standards, limited drilling, electric cars, and clean coal should be short term goals. Renewable clean energy should be our long term goal. Energy = national power. You guys already buy most of the oil and natural gas we produce, along with a bunch of hyro electricity. There isn't much more we can ship you.
