Is this a good argument for while we shouldn't drill for our own oil now?

The main ';reason'; I have heard liberals give for why we shouldn't drill for our own oil is because it would be years before we could reap any benefit from it (duh).

Do you feel that this is a legitimate, reasoned, logical argument against beginning drilling now?

Or... do you feel this is the most hair-brained, silliest, nonsensical argument against beginning drilling now that you have yet heard? Is this a good argument for while we shouldn't drill for our own oil now?
Yes, SOME dumb***es even PLANTED ORCHARDS with the full knowledge that it would take decades for them to produce....

We used to call it, ';foresight';, now it's just considered dumb to invest in the future. Is this a good argument for while we shouldn't drill for our own oil now?
Look, oil is going to get more expensive, no matter what we do.

Why? Because even if we drill everywhere, we don't have enough to change the basic facts: that demand for oil will keep increasing (due to developing countries) and supply of oil will keep decreasing. That means prices will keep rising. The cost of extraction will also increase because we are using up the ';easy to get'; oil and will have to move on to the ';hard to get'; oil.

So oil prices are going to go up. ...which means that if we keep our economy attached to oil, things are going to get very bad. The only smart solution is to invest as much as possible in alternative energy technologies, so that we can kick our oil habit as soon as we possibly can.

Because look, if our economy is still hooked on oil when the prices hit $8 and $12 and $16 per gallon, our country will be totally screwed. And what good would the extra wells do? They might bring the price down by a buck or two, say $14/gal instead of $16. That's too little, too late. We need to get off the oil addiction before then... because it is a path to economic disaster.
drill here drill now
