No...China is not drilling off the coast of the US or Cuba.
Today, in the Senate, armed with maps and reports, Sen. Mel Martinez 鈥?a Florida Republican who served in Bush鈥檚 cabinet 鈥?took to the Senate floor to dispute this claim:
';Despite what is cited as fact here in the Senate and in other places, China is not drilling off the coast of Cuba. 鈥?Reports to the contrary are simply false. 鈥?So any talk of using some fabricated China/Cuba connection as an argument to change U.S. policy, in my view, has no merit.';
A GOP member from FL (I know...how would he know what's going on off his coast line?) is correcting this claim from the right. It's simply NOT true that China is drilling off our coast.
United States overall has less than 2 percent of the world鈥檚 oil reserves, while consuming 25 percent of the world鈥檚 oil. Our own oil supply, without foreign imports, would last just three years. Drilling is not the solution.Is it true China is going to drill off the coast of Florida for Oil?

Yes, old Jimmy. He signed a treaty with Cuba in 1977 saying Cuba could conduct commercial activities within its territorial waters near the Florida Keys.
That treat is still in effect and with it, the right of Cuba to sign an agreement with China to explore for oil within that area.
There is a move in Congress to get Bush to revoke that treaty, so our oil remains ours.. But on the flip side, the enviro-freaks do not want the USA to drill for oil either.

America does not want China to buy our debt. China only buys our debt to devalue its currency so it can create an artificially created trade deficit

When China buys our debt it devalues China's currency. That increases the trade deficit with China, which provides China with the money to buy more of our debt. What China is doing is basically moving America's wealth and technology to China. America has asked China to stop buying U.S. debt but China refuses to do so.

I heard that Cuba has the ability to drill sideways and take oil from our parts of the Gulf of Mexico. I haven't heard of china going to Florida but they will probably be in US territory if they are looking for oil.

It is probably beyond the 12 mile international waters line. If we carefully drill, we can get the oil before they do. Shhh. Don't tell anybody.
Both China and Cuba are drilling right now off the Florida shore. The U.S. isn't allowed to do so. They just drain the oil and sell it to the U.S. for $134 a barrell. How stupid.
