Firstly, drilling oil involves destroying the environment around the drill site, which can endanger many animal species.
Secondly, oil is very, very dirty, and when being transported across oceans, if it spills can be deadly to local sea creatures.
Thirdly, oil is a fossil fuel, used to make petrol, plastics etc. All of which are very bad for the environment and add to greenhouse gases, we want to replace fossil fuels with alternatives such as solar power, wind power, etc which are better for the environment.
If we don't do this, we won't survive much longer :).
Do you realize that we could be on the brink of Extension mostly due to oil. Do you realize that this earth is not going to tolerate more and more pollution. Obamas plan is to utilize other options such as solar, wind, nuclear(long as its clean) in the time that it would take to build all these rigs. As well as creating millions of jobs. And then it's not like theres a never ending supply if we do start drilling. We have to be smarter than we have been in the past. We have the brains and the technology to reverse this awful cycle of pollution and greed. Germany has gone to solar power in a huge way. And all the people that use solar power are compensated for whatever they dont use because the power company buys it and sells it to others and cut there electric bills to average $7.00/month. Perfectly clean energy. Genius. Go Obama lead us on the way.

i get so tired of hearing people saying that america uses 25 percent of the oil but only has 3 percent of it here...they arnt fooling anyone with that anymore.let me break it down for you i promise to go slow...america uses 25 percent of whats drilled..america has up to 3 percent of the worlds total UN-DRILLED oil offshore..if america would drill there it would produce up to 30 years of oil for america.and it would NOT take 10 years to get it to market..americas leading drill experts have stated it would take only 1 to 2 years.....so i say DRILL BABY DRILL.
Maybe you remember that at the last set of congressional hearings regarding the ';oil crisis';, Maxine Water inadvertently blurted out that she and her Dem buddies wanted to '; take over the oil companies and socialize the industry';
And how the Dem's walked out during summer recess while the crisis was at it height without addressing the issue. A mere vote to drill would have been signal enough for the markets and prices to stabailze. But no not Dem !
As usual the Dem's can't win if the country is doing well ! They want to be the party to ';take away your pain';
Wake up ....market forces determine the price of oil more than anything or anyone else. Just look at the current price of a gallon of gas!
More supply, despite demand price goes down....
The Dems know if we were drill and have greater supplies of oil; especially during those times of strong economic activity, the price of oil remembers stabile.
Hence if they voted to drill = no issues to push their socialist agenda. No pain for the masses = not good for the dems.
Conclusion...The Dems screwed up Fannie/Freddie...did nothing to stabilize the price of oil ...all of which destroyed the economy, put us in another trillion dollars worth of debt. For what ? Their political gain and control. Now we're going to hire the same bunch of thugs who almost single handedly got us into this mess?

Cuba recently announced they have found oil off of their shores, approximately 10 billion barrels, just 100 miles from us...we should be drilling, too. Obama supporters will recite the same tripe that most Democrats in the House and Senate are saying that it would be 10 years before we saw any of this oil. Presidents for the last 25 years have advocated offshore drilling so if we had started drilling 25 years ago we would now be using our own oil.
If you were following this election properly you would know that America uses 25% of the worlds oil, yet only has 3% of it! That means if you were to suck up every drop, you will be causing a lot of damage to your natural resources and environment and still not be able to meet even 20% of your needs. Now do you get it? Make money another way, then pay someone to mess up their own countries resources.
It's because of these 3 individuals that I switched from voting a straight democratic ticket to voting for McCain and a select few democrats.
We don't need Obama in office with a blank check to spend us further into bankruptcy by sharing the wealth with all his socialist leaning buddies.

It's not drilling at all; it's the drilling rights in new locations (particularly offshore) when there are still plenty of already-granted places where drilling could take place, without granting new rights. Off-shore drilling, I think is more profitable than drilling in current fields, which is why the oil companies want new sites.

Yawn, the price of oil was artificially run up by speculators and Bush did NOTHING!!! And he could had released oil from the strategic reserve to had brought down the price of oil but din't because he was either to stupid or bought by his oil buddies.
Since oil can still be drilled for and brought from the Arabian penisula way cheaper that drilling in remote places in the USA, just how do you think that will solve anything? Of wait, you lib bashers DON';T THINK!

There is no shortage or oil. Gas prices are high because of GREED. Once Obama gets elected he will have to straighten out everything the previous idiot did.
Because as much as Obama wants to talk about McCain giving oil companies tax breaks, the big 3 are the ones really in bed with them.
We don't need to. If you tune up your car and keep the tire pressure just right, it'll have the same effect as drilling our own oil.
