Drilling for oil would help the economy. I am shocked at why we are not drilling for more oil in the U.S. Some people have suggested using other materials for oil eg, coal corn oil, alcohol, and water.
'Record prices are prompting oil prospectors to renew interest in drilling in Los Angeles, where urban sprawl, environmental opponents and decades of production make for one of the world's toughest oil fields.

';That increase in oil prices has caused expansion of exploration and production throughout the country and especially in California,'; says Steve Rusch, vice president of a Texas oil company that does extensive drilling in and around Los Angeles. ';There's a huge incentive.';
Oil has been produced in Los Angeles since the early 1900s, directly offshore as well as along city streets. To meet the demands of environmental opponents and gain needed permits, oil drillers have come up with a variety of methods to disguise oil wells so that most passersby don't even know oil drilling is going on.'

If they applied these principles and procedures across North America we would have a healthier economy. The political situation has halted this progress but WHY???.
All the best
Peter tWhy cant we find or drill for more oil in the US .It has to be here this would help economy?
because the democrat congress wont let oil companies to drill in ANWAR and millionares wont let them drill off the coast of Florida and California.
Plus there is proven technology that can turn coal to oil at a cheap cost which the germans did in ww2 when they couldnt get oil and that kept their war machine running for almost 5 years. once again the libs and some moderate republicans wont let them do it. im only 13 and i realize thisWhy cant we find or drill for more oil in the US .It has to be here this would help economy?
Drilling for more oil is like robbing Peter to pay Paul. Now is the time to lower our energy usage, and eventually move away from plastics.

Americans need to stop consuming and wasting more than all the other industrial nations. We also need to make a concerted effort to move towards mass transit, especially trains and buses.

Any carbon-based waste, from turkey guts to used tires, can, by adding sufficient heat and pressure, be turned into oil through a process called thermo-depolymerization, This is very similar to how nature produces oil, but with this technology, the process is expedited by millions of years to achieve the same byproduct. Proponents of this technology claim that a ton of turkey waste can cough up about 600 pounds of petroleum.
By the way, does anyone know what happened to this?

Oil is a finite resource you know? You cannot just keep on drilling and hoping that the next lot of oil will tide you over. That is a very short term and ignorant view. If anything we should be diversifying into other areas, so that if there are shortages of oil, it will not impact as badly.
you shouldn't be asking us
ask your congress man and the prez candidates and the DemRep parties to explain why they insist on getting in the way.
