The amount of oil in ANWAR would provide about 2% of the US needs when spread over the 15 years needed to get it out. It would have no effect of the price.
The Dems got many times the effect by increasing cafe standards last year.

A) There is only about 10-15 years of US consumption of oil there.
B) It doesn't help the underlying dependency problem of oil (that will run out in about 150 years, worldwide)
C) The oil companies, not only want to allow the drilling, they also want the US tax payer to foot the bill for transporting the oil.
D) Do you really think the oil companies are going to sell this oil for a domestically produced price, and only back to the US consumer? Or is it more likely to they will sell it back to us, and whoever else they want, at the OPEC world rate ($120 per barrel)?
If the Republicans are all for it, maybe you can explain how they were unable to get it done when there was a Republican House, Senate and White House from 2000 - 2006?

I think we need to realize that we waste too much of a finite resource in the first place and determine how we can achieve efficiency, NOT, simply hope we can do nothing to alter our behaviour
The liberal Congress is all for the now not the future. They have no patents, they can't see that if we let the Saudis run out of oil then they and the rest of the world will have to come to us for their oil insuring that the US stays THE super power for many hundreds of years to come.
