Makes sense to me. The glacier receeded, now they have great places to drill for oil, places not available a twenty years ago. And finding oil there will help stop global warming, right? So global warming melted the glacier in Alaska, now why shouldn't they drill for oil in the thawed parts?
It wouldn't help the snvironment now would it?
To the best of my knowledge, none of the oil that goes through that ugly pipeline goes to the US anway! Doesn't it all go to Japan?
We need a few more Exxon Valdez dumps in Alaska. It's so good for all those animals up there. So global warming melted the glacier in Alaska, now why shouldn't they drill for oil in the thawed parts?
Efforts are still made only to prevent Global Warming.Being Research Engineers we have made an attempt to suggest a solution to Global Warming in the form of futuresystematization.

Luckily, not all the glacier are melted yet. But more importantly, the problem with drilling in Alaska is not that it would make the ice melt, but that it would heavily impact complex eco-systems. Even very cold regions and even glaciers have fauna, and any huge intervention in fragile cold areas of the world may have huge unforeseeable consequences.
The other issue is, we're already using up fossil fuels at a breakneck rate instead of finding ways to conserve energy. If there was the political will to truly change something, public transport could replace a lot of individual transportation by car, environmentally much more efficient trains could replace many flights (emissions from airplanes are especially destructive of the atmosphere), houses could be insulated and built in smarter ways to save on heating and make air-conditioning superfluous. There's *much* more that could be done.
So why is George W. in favour of drilling in Alaska? Well, his cronies are going to make huge profits once they're being given this business.
I don't get it...Why would you think that finding oil would stop global warming? One of the suggested reasons for increased global warming is emissions/pollution. Pretty much ALL uses of oil presently result in emissions.
The reason not to drill is to maintain the natural habitat and allow the species in these protected areas to continue to survive and proliferate.
There are other cheaper, more efficient, less polluting technologies available; not to mention vast other oil sources if people must insist on this type of fuel. In Canada alone, there is enough oil to support the entire world for another century.
