Is this another reason why we should drill for more domestic oil?

Our military machinery (boats, ships,aircrafts, tanks etc) do not run on alternative energy. I mean.... I don't think solar power is going to run our tanks...do you?





This includes civilian liners used for imports or exports...





If we need to take military action...we need to make sure that fuel will not be an issue....

America is in Deep Water and sinking fast. We need to drill to become a self-sufficient country.Is this another reason why we should drill for more domestic oil?
I agree with the first two people; We need to drill for our own supply of oil now. Everything in our households that is made of plastic is made from oil. The use of alternative fuels is a completed disaster. Ethanol has spiked up the cost of almost everything in the supermarket and has caused world wide shortages in food.





Wind farms and solar energy are not being used by our world competitors like France, China, and Russia. They have vested heavily in nuclear power because its more reliable and it鈥檚 a much more powerful technology in producing energy.





As long as the politicians stand in the way of proven technologies, and drilling for our own oil, exploration for new oil sources, and building new refineries, we will fall backwards to our competitors. They will gain a major advantage over the US. We will have to import more power and oil from our neighbors.





We should not be in this position, because of a few people in Washington who will put us in the position. Vote for people who have America鈥檚 interests at heart and not for those who have vested interests in seeing our great country dismantled.



One thing people have to remember is that in America the oil industry is PRIVATELY owned. The only reason people in Saudi Arabia and Venezuela have cheap gas is because they have a nationalized oil industry where the government can set prices. Unless the U.S. nationalizes the oil industry, the oil found in the States, which is extracted by private companies will be sold on the world market. This means that just because its found in America, it won't be sold in America but it might go to Europe, Asia, etc.





I would love for offshore drilling to begin, but Congress needs to make sure that the oil will only be sold in the U.S.
The military has its own fuel stockpile. Consumer shortages have no effect on the military. It's not a well known fact.





I have no problem passing a law forcing oil companies to drill. Leasing them more land and forcing them to drill are two different issues. They'll bring down the price per barrel if they drill. They'll make the same amount of money selling more oil. Not a good business decision. I know people don't want to believe that, but it's true. Simple stuff. Increased supply lowers the price. Oil companies don't want prices to drop.
It is that simple, add nuclear power and refineries also.


If the Democrats don't want to do that it is not because of the environment. If that were the case they would want to stop 3rd world counties from drilling also. They want to weaken the US so it can be ';taken over'; as a socialist state. they will drill like crazy when they are in control. Just like war, they oppose ';Bush's'; war but had no problem with the Clintestas' war in Kosovo! Hypocrites.
No we should tap into places that already are leased before adding new ones.





If we can get the rest of America off of oil, I am sure we can run tanks on a biofuel.





Or we can get just the cars we drive every day off gas that would free it up for military machinery.





There is not a never ending supply of oil. We need to realize this and work on something better as we slowly wean ourselves off oil.
My answer is;


Americans should have taken up the charge ';30 Years Ago'; to get off the ';Terrorist Support Network aka OPEC'; and be off Crude oil as our main source of fuel in 20 years (that would have been 1998 folks). Instead of laughing at the guy because his brother was a falling down drunk that you would want to go out and have a Beer with.





So while you may make a Valid point.





Our oil that comes from American Soil, goes to the World Market, Period.


And that is where Anymore oil we drill up is going to go To!

We should have been drilling for oil here a long time ago.


Some people think we might be harming the environment. Well here is a suprise driving cars is causing polution.


Some people are afraid that there could be oil spills... another suprise importing it here has caused at least one oil spill.


Drill. Drill. Drill. and tell the middle east where to go and how to get there.
Actually the military has many submarines and ships that run on small nuclear reactors. However, I do agree that solar power is not the answer. It is too costly. Oil seems to be the only source right now. It is plentiful in the U.S., and we can drill very safely. We need to stop moving money out of our country and start drilling our own oil.
yeah, yeah, yeah. if they drilled your front yard you'd be.... miffed. there are a lot of oil wells in this country that are capped for national security. and there is 80 million acres of leased land they could drill, but they do not. sorry, but this is sounding like paid per post.

Yes only a dummy would want to stay dependent on foreign countries.They should have done it years ago but the tree huggers would rather leave the mess to their kids. We need to start drilling immediately and also work toward using all the other sources.
Every option should be used.


Drilling,solar,wind power,hydro,nuclear and everything in between to get the U.S. away from OPEC.
We still produce nearly 6 million barrels a day domestically, more than enough to run all the wild invasion plans of republicans and McCain. Maybe we should stop trying to be the world police and only focus on our self interests like every other country does.
